Adaptive Two Stage Bilateral Filter for Image Denoising
Subscribe/Renew Journal
In terms of noise removal, the conventional linear filter works well in smooth regions, but significantly blurs the edge structures of an image. In this paper, we present an adaptive bilateral filter (ABF) for sharpness enhancement and noise removal. ABF sharpens an image by increasing the slope of the edges without producing overshoot or undershoot The proposed method first classifies the pixels into two classes, which are “noise free pixel”and “noisy pixel” based on the intensity values. The corrupted pixels are replaced by “alpha trim-mean” value of uncorrupted pixels in the filtering window. The proposed algorithm work very well for images with lower percentage of impulse noise also.
