He was born in Calcutta in 1894. A child of the Bengal renaissance. Young Satyendranath was brought up in the sophisticated milieu of urban Calcutta; his urbanity, sophistication, his deep bondage with art, music and literature essentially came from that upbringing and the existing social structure of Calcutta. He could be easily called an icon in the literary and musical circuit of Calcutta at that time.
