The Sun and the stars are the most powerful sources of electromagnetic radiation. But they emit in-coherent radiation, wave lengths ranging from kilometres to fractions of an Angstrom. "LASER" "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation" gets its name from its function i.e. that it can amplify light.
