In an important statistical survey reported by Gacula, Gaunt and Damon, it has been emphasized that the causative factors for variation in milk composition are: herd 11 6 per cent, age 73 per cent, season V4 per cent and year r 6 per cent. Studies carried out in the climatic laboratories at Missouri have revealed that as temperature increased from 10°C to 38°C, milk yield fell steadily. Burt and Rook concluded that an increase in energy intake increased milk yield, SNF content and to a lesser extent, lactose content and decreased the fat content.
