The most important requisite for normal physical development is an adequate food intake. Variations in the dietary intake of different nutrients are reflected by changes in the concentration of the corresponding nutrients or their key metabolites in blood, tissues and urine. These levels can be related to inadequate, or adequate dietary intakes of the nutrients.
