The paper deals with the necessity, salient feature's of the 2nd Hoogly Bridge and recent controversy which has arisen with choice of a such a high rise bridge and utility of the same in view of the recent proposal of delinking Haldia port from the Calcutta Port which would make the huge expenditure to be made for the high rise bridge meaningless.
