Some Facts about the Damodar Valley Scheme are:-
The Damodar Valley is located north-west of Calcutta in the provinces of Bengal and Bihar, the total catchment area of the river at its mouth is 8,500 square miles. The multi-purpose project will provide perennial irrigation for 800,000 acres and generate a peak load of some 300,000 kilowatts. It will benefit more than five million people in the rural areas and more than two million of urban population. The project will facilitate navigation on the Hooghly upto Raniganj coal field area. A Damodar Valley Corporation modeled on the Tennesse Valley Scheme but modified to suit Indian conditions, is being created.
