Housing Planning

Housing has a very high priority in the 24 point national economic development plan of Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. About 80% of the rural people live in houses either insanitary or unsafe. A separate authority should be set up for this purpose at the State level and research work should be intensified for use of indigenous materials. Full attention should be paid to the sanitary, drainage, water, lighting and other facilities. The houses may have stages for expanding floor area and for converting from semi pucca to fully pucca structure. The houses should be of local material. The people should be provided loan at low interest. Partial or full scale fabrication system should be evolved based on the use of local building materials and skills.
