Investigation of WEDM Performance for Maintaining Accuracy of Notched Specimen
Subscribe/Renew Journal
In this research work, Wire Electric Discharge Machine (WEDM) was used to cut CT specimen notch (60°) on a mild steel sample with varying the WEDM input parameter set to study the accuracy of the notch. For the study, pulse on time (TON), pulse off time (TOFF), peak current (IP), wire tension (WT) and servo feed (SF) was taken as input parameter, and the notch radius was considered as primary output parameter Kerf width was also recorded for the study as another response parameter This work carefully analysed the dependency of the accuracy of notch radius and kerf width with the WEDM input parameter for minimizing the notch radius to maximize the notch accuracy Pulse on time (TON), pulse off time (TOFF), and peak current (IP) plays a significant role for notch accuracy. The kerf width decreases with the increase of wire tension and increases with the increase of pulse on time and peak current. From the study of all the graphical plot, it can be concluded that the parameter set namely TON=20 μs, TOFF=52 μs, IP=90 A, WT=6 kgf, SF=2400 mm/min gives maximum accuracy and TON=20 μs, TOFF=54 μs, IP=90A, WT=8 kgf, SF=2250 mm/min gives minimum kerf width.
