Studies on the Energy-Efficient Illumination Design for the Healthcare Sector
Subscribe/Renew Journal
In present days of energy crisis, the primary aim of an electrical engineer is to design an energy-efficient illumination system favouring the proper illumination level and visual comfort of the occupants of those spaces in compliance with relevant codes and guidelines. As of September 2022, India’s total installed power capacity is 407.796 GW. Of the total electricity consumption in India the building sector contributes 33%, further among the commercial building contributes for 9% of total electricity consumption in India. HVAC and Illumination are the leading consumers of energy in commercial buildings. Approximately illumination load constitutes 59% of total power consumption in commercial buildings and 19% of total power generation in India. Since healthcare sectors have an immense contribution in our society and it operates all round the clock, artificial light sources generate enormous energy demand of lighting load to the total power consumption. This article focuses on an in-depth study of energy-efficient and sustainable illumination solution for the healthcare sectors classified under Hospital-General Treatment and Specialized Treatment, Medical College and Pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
