Success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same one a second time-George Bernard Shaw Recently, I happened to inaugurate the annual session of the 14th International English Grammar Congress (IEGC), co-sponsored by the British Council and held in the south of India. I tried to share, in my inaugural address, some of my perceptions of and experiences in teaching grammar in India and abroad over the past four decades. I thought I could adapt my presentation and have it published as a paper for the benefit of a larger audience. I am glad and grateful that IJRHuSS volunteered to publish it.

Abstract

Success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same one a second time-George Bernard Shaw Recently, I happened to inaugurate the annual session of the 14th International English Grammar Congress (IEGC), co-sponsored by the British Council and held in the south of India. I tried to share, in my inaugural address, some of my perceptions of and experiences in teaching grammar in India and abroad over the past four decades. I thought I could adapt my presentation and have it published as a paper for the benefit of a larger audience. I am glad and grateful that IJRHuSS volunteered to publish it.
