Orissa Forest Development Corporation (OFDC) has emerged as a dominant Public Sector Enterprise in Orissa and a partner in the State's economy and has been assigned a wide role to play in the process of economic development in the State. Within a period of twenty-nine years from its inception, it has registered a tremendons growth, its number of operational working units increased 10 times from just 5 units in 1962 to 50 units, in 1991; its turnover of about Rs. 16 lakhs in 1962-63 registered a fast growth during the period of 29 years recording an increase of 1,16,775 per cent, within a period of 5 years alone, from Rs. 83.78 crores in 1986-87 to Rs. 186.84 crores in 1990-91. The royalty paid to State Government was around Rs. 15 lakhs whereas the royalty and working expenses to be paid in 1991-92 has gone upto about Rs. 335 crores. Its activities, in terms of physical achievements and financial gains have increased manifold over the years which signifies that it has now become a mega Corporation in the State by its continuous endeavour and all round development.
