Effect of Structured Teaching Programme on Child Birth Spacing among Post Caesarean Primiparous Mothers

The rapid increase of population has got an adverse effect on the national economy. More over increasing number of births has got a deleterious effect on the mother and the child and hinders social and economic upliftment of the family. The present study assessed the effect of structured teaching programme on child birth spacing among post caesarean primiparous mothers. The objectives were to assess the knowledge and attitude of post-caesarean primiparous mothers regarding child birth spacing, to determine the effect of structured teaching programme on child birth spacing and to find the association of knowledge and attitude with selected demographic variables. The conceptual frame work was based on Nola J Pender’s Health Promotion Model. The study was conducted using pre experimental one group pre-test post-test design. By using convenient sampling technique, the investigator selected 40 Post-Caesarean Primiparous Mothers. The mean pre-test and post-test knowledge scores were 15.25 and 24.6 respectively. The mean pre-test and post-test attitude scores were 35 and 41.7 respectively. The paired t test value for knowledge and attitude were 21.87 and 17.82 respectively. The table value is 1.684, which is less than the calculated value revealed the statistical significance. The calculated chi square value is less than the table value suggests that there is no association with pre test knowledge and attitude with selected demographic variables. The study concluded that the structured teaching programme was effective.
