Network Congestion Management for Improved Network Performance
Subscribe/Renew Journal
In the modern world, Internet has become an essential part of any organization’s communication system. Although internet connectivity is readily available and carries many benefits, organizations have realized that this connectivity has a lot of unwanted side effects such as network congestion and the underlying cause of the congestion is due to flood of IP [internet protocol] traffic onto and off the internet. This paper aims at illustrating the impact of the role of learning mechanisms on the implementation of the quality of service (QoS) applied to the network bandwidth to reduce network congestion [packet drops, latency and jitter] to provide congestion free network. Congestion management and congestion avoidance techniques are explained in detail. Different network scenarios without and with QoS and its consequences are mentioned. It also discusses how voice traffic should be prioritized with data and video at the time of congestion and explained with an example of real time issue.
