Interference Avoidance Technique Using the Smart Radio Channel Change Protocol

In wireless communication area, Cognitive radio is an emerging technology which draws attention for more efficient spectrum utilization systems. Cognitive radio is an intelligent mechanism of avoiding interference based on dynamic spectrum sharing. This paper deals with the design, implementation, simulation, and testing of the Smart Radio Channel Change Protocol (CCP). As nearly 80% of spectrum is underutilised, this technique is advantageous to reuse the frequency spectrum. The CCP enables a digital cognitive radio to detect the presence of legacy analog or digital radios, and to facilitate Channel-change procedures to use an alternate, vacant blocks of spectrum. This allows primary and secondary users to co-exist in the same band with minimal interference and improve quality of service (QoS). Here, this wireless network is evaluated using discrete event simulators like OMNeT++. The CCP is also advantageous to other systems’ frequency management schemes due to its simplicity of design and execution.
