Helical Antennas have been known for more than half a century, but here in this thesis, a novel antenna with a doubly helical geometry is introduced, which provides wide bandwidth and circular polarization but occupies a volume 2.5 to 3 times smaller than a conventional helix having about the same radiation characteristics. This antenna is referred to as Spiro-Helical Antenna. Based on experimental results, a set of diagrams is made to enable simple but accurate design of Spiro-helical antennas. Finally, the results are experimentally verified.

Abstract

Helical Antennas have been known for more than half a century, but here in this thesis, a novel antenna with a doubly helical geometry is introduced, which provides wide bandwidth and circular polarization but occupies a volume 2.5 to 3 times smaller than a conventional helix having about the same radiation characteristics. This antenna is referred to as Spiro-Helical Antenna. Based on experimental results, a set of diagrams is made to enable simple but accurate design of Spiro-helical antennas. Finally, the results are experimentally verified.
