Subscribe/Renew Journal
Chronobiology deals with rhythmic patterns that occur in all forms of life. In humans and in other animals like rats prominent rhythms are found in blood pressure, body core temperature, reproductive function, etc. This review deals with the hormonal interplay in regulation of circadian rhythms of animals. It is complemented with authoritative reports drawn from experiments conducted to demonstrate the roles of hormones like Melatonin of Pineal gland, which has a prominent role in controlling rhythms of reproductive function, sleep and activity. Melatonin therapy can also be helpful in case of elderly insomniacs and shift workers. This work also involves the role of some other hormones like : Adreno-cortical hormones.
This overview can provide some insights into the treatment of diseases related to alterations in circadian rhythms.
