DNA is the carrier of genetic information. Though it was believed that DNA is stable in our body; but later, scientists concluded that DNA is very fragile under human physiological conditions. Also, radiation and exogenous agents can cause DNA damage, this can be mutagenic. Scientistsdiscovered the existence ofdifferent molecular pathways to overcome the damages in DNA. Tomas Lindahl, Aziz Sancar, Paul Modrich jointly won the Chemistry Nobel Prize in 2015. They mapped different pathways to repair damaged DNA.
