Hirakud Dam Project-

The people of India have for long suffered a great deal from lack of water for cultivation at the time when it was most required and from floods when least wanted. Therefore, since the attainment of National and Political Independence a large number of schemes known as multipurpose schemes, costing huge sums of money, have been prepared by Government Departments for the improvement of the country by building dams in suitable localities to form reservoirs and cutting canals to guide the water through proper Channels for irrigation and Navigation and at the same time using the stored energy for generating power wherever possible.
