This paper presents the results of investigations of the magnitude of metallic wear occurring on unlubricated conical bearings used in the spinning spindle assembly. A notch method has been used in the present work for the quantitative determination of wear. The course of metallic wear is investigated over a range of loads The wear process is observed to be of multiple stages in nature. Variations of friction force with load and time have been presented. Contact pressure on the bearing for a particular load as well as running period has also been determined.
