A Study of Thoraco-abdominal Trauma in Fatal Road Traffic Accidents in Aurangabad

Background: Road Traffic Accidents are the fourth leading cause of death following heart disease, cancer and stroke. Hence accidents pose a major medico-legal problem for the population of India. The present study is done to understand the pattern of thoraco-abdominal trauma in fatal road traffic accidents in Aurangabad District of Maharashtra. Methods: This hospital based retrospective research work was conducted in above Medical College Hospital during May 2003 to 2005 wherein 150 cases were included. Results: Majority of the victims were males in 30 to 39 years age group, most of them died within 0-12 hours of accident. Maximum victims had thoraco-abdominal trauma and were brought dead.
