The Functional Outcome of Antegrade Unreamed Humeral Interlocking Nailing in Adults

Fractures of the humerus shaft account for roughly 1% of all fractures handled. The method of interconnecting nails reflects a newer approach to the therapy of humeral broken bones. The aim is to prospectively study the “functional outcome of antegrade intramedullary interlocking nailing in fracture shaft of humerus” at the Department of Orthopaedics in Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital chrompet Chennai. The recruitment period of this study shall be from March 2017 to February 2018 (12 months). The follow-up period shall be for a minimum period of 7 months (range: 7 to 19 months). Radiological union, practical outcome and problems have been evaluated. By the end of 6 months, the Union rate was 97.14 per cent. According to Rodriguez-Merchan EC, of the 35 patients evaluated, 16 patients had outstanding functional ratings, 12 had good ratings, 4 had reasonable ratings and 3 had bad ratings. There was 1 case of non-union, 1 case of superficial infection, 1 case of profound infection and 1 case of shoulder stiffness. Unreamed humeral interlocking nail is an efficient means of fixing severe humeral fractures.
