Effect of Pretreatment on Germination of Adenanthera pavonina Linn Seed
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Adenanthera pavonina is an excellent green manure yielding species, which produces hard-coated and bright red colour seeds. Seed has physical dormancy due to hardiness of testa. Seed germination was enhanced from 30.85 per cent (untreated) to 90.85 per cent (mechanical scarification). Although mechanical scarification treatment gives early, uniform and highest germination but it is not practicable in large-scale. Therefore, hot water soaking for 24 hours or sulphuric acid for 15 minutes soaking is recommended.
