Allelopathic Influence of Leucaena leucocephala on Growth of Oats
Subscribe/Renew Journal
A laboratory experiment was conducted in 1995 to study the allelopathic effect of Leuccrena leucocephala Lam. de Wit. leaf leachates on the germination (%), and seedling growth of Oats. Leaf leachate were prepared by soaking 200 g oven dried ground leaves of Leuccrena in distilled water for 24 hours. Solutions were filtered and then diluted to make concentrations of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 percent. The leachates of different concentrations were used to study their effect on germination (%), plumule length and. radicle length of Oats seeds. Germination (%), plumule length and radicle length decreased progressively with an increase in the concentration of leaf leachate. However, ischolar_main number did not vary significantly.
